(MMB, 9 oct.2009)

Changing research landscapesto make the most of human potential: 10 years of EU activities in "Women and Science", and BEYOND

Changing research landscapesto make the most of human potential: 10 years of EU activities in "Women and Science", and BEYOND. This conference aims at encouraging public and private research institutions to reflect on the role that an appropriately gendered management plays in the provision of genuine equal opportunities, and the benefit that this could have for science and technology. Human resource managers from universities and other research institutions, school-level science education experts, researchers, representatives from EU member states and non-European countries, policy makers and other stakeholders will come together to look at how young people can be attracted into research in the first place, and then how research organisations can improve their working environments in order to keep these women and men in research careers. Since the conference will also be marking ten years of activities for the European Union in the field of Women and Science, the plenary sessions will include presentations that analyse the results of past activities and also look to the future.Registration is open now: http://ec.europa.eu/research/science-society.

A new report on 'Joint and Dual/Double Degree Programs in the Transatlantic Context'

A new report on 'Joint and Dual/Double Degree Programs in the Transatlantic Context' has just been released by IIE and Freie Universitaet Berlin. The report examines the key findings of an extensive survey conducted in spring 2008, based on responses from 180 higher education institutions in the United States and the European Union. The report assesses the current landscape of transatlantic degree programmes and identifies inherent challenges and opportunities of expanding existing or developing new programmes. It is available for download at: www.iie.org/researchpublications or at www.tdp-project.de.
Later this year, the project partners will also publish a Transatlantic Degree Programs (TDP) Manual for Institutions, which is intended to serve as a key resource to institutions who wish to build or expand transatlantic joint or dual degree programs. Faculty members and university administrators with experience in developing and maintaining joint and dual/double degree programmes are invited to submit articles to the Manual. Deadline for submitting articles is March 1, 2009. A call for papers is available on the websites mentioned above.
